Hope and Horror by Govinda Sah

     ‘ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL’
Cambridge Outsider Art Event from September 1st - 27th at the Michaelhouse Centre, Trinity St., Cambridge. Cafe is open from 9.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
This is an exciting new exhibition that uses art to examine the position of the outsider, both within the creative sphere and society as a whole. Curated by the Cambridge Outsider Arts Team (COAST) it features work by 15 different artists, including the homeless and individuals affected by mental health problems as well as professional artists exploring the question of what it means to be an outsider.
Featured pieces include Govinda Sah’s ‘Hope and Horror’; Peter Heywood’s ‘Flight of the Condor’, and Deanna Tyson’s tender tributes to her mother living in care.
COAST is a Cambridge-based artisis collective working alongside the CambridgeFringe Open Studioos and plays a key role in the city’s burgeoning fringe movement. Another Brick in the Wall is their biggest venture so far.

Currently on display in the Hervey de Stanton Chapel is Claire Carter’s Transfiguration.

‘For me, one of the main purposes of art is to reveal - make explicit - an experience, however fleeting, of the Mystery of the Divine. There are innumerable windows on the Divine in everyday life - they are all too easy to miss, but finding one brings delight and enlivens the daily grind. This work is reminiscent of a window.... a space where the light comes in ...... it plays with line and texture and shadow.
Each strand of this piece was made individually; the result has been likened to a net and I like the resonance with the idea of a fishing net and the symbolism this is given in the gospels. Once again something everyday and ordinary becomes a pointer to the Divine.’
