Michaelhouse is located in the Church of St Michael’s, and is part of the parish of St Mary the Great, Cambridge. Since its refurbishment in 2002, Michaelhouse has been served by a part-time chaplain. Together with the parish clergy of Great St Mary’s, the St Michael’s chaplaincy leads almost daily worship at Michaelhouse, and provides resources for personal prayer and meditation, as well as opportunities for reflection on the Christian faith. In addition there are regular workshops and lecture series on issues of faith and belief. Each year the chaplaincy co-ordinates additional events that seek to provide a link between the arts and our personal beliefs. Michaelhouse chapel is a lively weekday church, with a wide variety of worship, ranging from, an eucharist for toddlers and their carers on a Tuesday, to a Communion service with Bible discussion on a Thursday. It is also a popular venue for baptisms and special services of Blessing. There have been chaplains at Michaelhouse since the appointment of the priest Walter de Buxton as master of the historic college in 1327. Until the Reformation, and the incorporation of the chapel into Trinity college, two chaplains served the parish of St Michael’s. From the late sixteenth century until the late nineteenth century, priest fellows of Trinity College ministered at St Michael’s, taking the title chaplain as well.
