Michaelhouse Chaplaincy: The Revd. Dr. Andreas Loewe
Michaelhouse is located in the Church of St Michael’s, and is part of the parish of St Mary the Great, Cambridge. Since its refurbishment in 2002, Michaelhouse has been served by a part-time chaplain and, more recently, a chaplaincy volunteer. Together with the parish clergy of Great St Mary’s, the St Michael’s, chaplaincy team lead our daily worship at Michaelhouse, and provide resources for personal prayer and meditation, as well as opportunities for reflection on the Christian faith. In addition there are regular workshops and lecture series on issues of faith and belief.
Each year the chaplaincy team prepares a number of arts exhibitions and musical events that seek to provide a link between the arts and our personal beliefs.
Michaelhouse chapel is a lively weekday church, with a wide variety of worship, ranging from meditative mid-day prayer on a Monday, a popular choral communion service on a Wednesday, to a lively Communion service with Bible discussion on a Thursday.
It is also a popular venue for weddings and baptisms. Details of our regular worship can be found on the diary page. There have been chaplains at Michaelhouse since the appointment of the priest Walter de Buxton as master of the historic college in 1327. Until the Reformation, and the incorporation of the chapel into Trinity college, two chaplains served the parish of St Michael’s. From the late sixteenth century until the late nineteenth century, priest fellows of Trinity College ministered at St Michael’s, taking the title chaplain as well.
The Chaplain is the Revd. Dr Andreas Loewe (email: andreas@michaelhouse.org.uk). He is assisted by a chaplaincy volunteer, Nikolai Dienerowitz (email: nikolai@michaelhouse.org.uk). The chaplaincy office can be contacted on Mondays to Thursdays during office hours on tel. 01223 741718.
